Wow. At the Standard Class Nationals, 17-year-old Chris Saunders is running neck and neck for the lead with his Uncle Tom Beltz. Other pilots under 26 at Hobbs are Liz Schwenkler, 2-time World Junior pilot, and Garret Willat in his first FAI Nationals.

Congratulations to recent good placings (8th, 9th) at the 1-26 Championships by Mitch Hudson (OK, just over 25, but 1-26ers recognize 'under 30' as young), and Mike Westbrook, only 17.

Mentor a youngster to a contest, will you? It's impresssive and rewarding to see them quickly catch on. SSA even has some funds to help. See 'Youth Programs' at www.ssa.org

Actually, Mike Westbrook and his Dad, Mick Westbrook were the first placed Team entrant. Mike had one 1000 point day out of the three he got to fly, and at least one other over 900, so it is no exaggeration to say he 'blew the doors off' most everyone, including his Dad. I expect that if he'd been flying as a single entrant instead of as a member of a team entrant he would have placed very well.
