Our club is trying to document procedures/training requirements and protocols for flying X-C in our club ships. If anyone out there is willing to share what they have it would be greatly appreciated.

Specifically: What pilot qualifications are required to go X-C in a club ship?

How are you defining X-C, out of gliding distance from the field? This seems pretty restrictive.

Are members allowed to reserve a ship for the day? If so, is there a minimum charge?

You can contact me directly by e-mail if you wish.

Thanks in advance.

Tom,

We are not a club, but facing the same issue as the season has now arrived that students are able to stay aloft all afternoon in the trainer and now naturally want to venture out to the next airport.

We have adopted the standard as some other soaring FBO's for Cross-country approval: A) The Pilot must hold at least a Private Glider rating. Pilots less than 16 years old must meet all the other FAA requirements except the age requirement. Only after officially completing the FAI five-hour endurance flight with an Instructor. i.e cross-country training or simulation.
