I have put LOTS of work into writing instructions how to design a task in Win Pilot and transfer it into the VL - LOTS!

All seems OK - I can design a task in WP, upload it into the VL, do the VL DEC, etc, etc. I have figured out how to do all the parameters for the OZ (500 meters, 3km)- all is as it should be as far as I can tell. I have designed a checklist preflight to make sure all is as (I believe) it should be. BUT - when I take it up to fly all is fine but the automatic features (beeps to indicate in the zone, good passage, advance to the next TP) do not kick in when I go over the 500 meter cylinder or in the 3km OZ. All else seems fine and I can always do a manual MARKER, but that isn't the point!

As anyone using the VL knows, the instructions are not helpful when trying to clarify HOW to use it once all the variables are set in. I think I have written several documents that clarify much of what is unintelligible in an effort to elp myself and others, but I cannot get the ?><(*&^%$ automatic features to kick in - I must have missed something. If anyone is willing to help (please do!) I'd be happy to send you the work I have done (in Word format) as I frankly think it makes much more sense than the VL company stuff.

I suspect the fault is somewhere in having to do something in the FAI:EDIT or FAIECLARE section, or in the NAV:ROUTE section but I am at a loss to know just what to do.

If you want my instructions email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - I think you will like them. I'' try to attach one here.

Thanks - and please help - I cannot but think others are having the same problem.

They do!!

I've heard at least from two friends of mine of a similar problem.

I think they were assisted by the customer service after some time but I do know other that experienced perfect functioning of the Volkslogger.

Great file by the way

Gloria - if you would like either of the others (VL Practicalities or VL Preflight) just let me know as above - feel free to pass them on to others. I think they are all quyite good with the one exception of some tiny change to get TP passage to automate. It would apear from the lack of other pilot comments that either nobody uses the VL (perhaps due to poor instructions) or nobody knows the answer. I have also been in communication with Mr. Garrecht in Germany and asked for his help (He is the boss of the VL company Garrecht). When I get the answer from him (hopefully) I'll post it here.

Gloria - I have finally found the problem and am in the process of writing up instructions. Basically t concern the fact that although one sets the parameters for the cylinder and radius of a turnpoint in the MENU:CFG1:OZ area of the VL, one also has to go into the MENU:FAI:TASK are and edit each TP. I finally was able to check this out in flight several days ago and it finally works! If you wold send y
me your email (I am neptune@ecentral.com) I'll send you the work I have done.

In summary the instuructions that come with teh VL are absolutely pitiful. I don't really know why I refused to give up, but at least now I can send anyone who wants them the way to start with a Win Pilot, load a task into the VL, and go out and fly.

I still have a few questions to ask Mr. Garrecht about how to store the route and then retrieve it, etc, but at least now I know how to get the darned thing to work!!!
