Since there no longer seems to be a source for 4-legged wing stands, I solicit opinions on available tripod wing stands.

What is the best, sturdiest, and safest wing stand on the market? Ray

I have purchased several tripod wing stands from Eastern Sailplane (John Murray). I am very happy with them. They have a very wide base so that stand well in grass. They only thing missing was adjustability. They have a fixed height (if I remember correctly).

I have used Cobra wingstands, Knauff wingstands, and Murray wingstands. The Murray stands are superior, in a class of their own. They aren't adjustable in height, but that isn't a problem because you just move them in or out along the wing until they fit.

For sturdy, adjustable and cheap go to your local home center, such as Home Depot. Get what it called a roller stand. They are adjustable in height and very sturdy. They are made to support wood beyond the base of a table saw or a planer. It will have a 2' diameter by 10' roller on top If you go to the plumping department you can get some pipe insulation to cushion the roller. The nicer ones have one leg that folds into the other to make it compact for storage. They cost between $20 and $40 US dollars.

There is a picture of one here: http://simplest-shop.com/tools.php/Mode/related/ AsinSearch/B0000223R1...

I have seen these used by the local CAP unit for there Blanik L-23. It worked out well.

You can also buy a painter's stand. It has a flat piece on top and the legs fold out to make 4 point of contact. Home Depot, $25.
