Does anyone have experience with towing a standard class sailplane behind an Ultralight (Dragonfly)?

C'mon Ramy... Just give it a go! It might be a bit like watersking behind a wet bike, but give it a whirl..... its not like you to ask questions before giving it a try .... long field, long rope,(maybe skip the ballast) heh heh

I want to make sure it is possible before I drive over 2000 miles to try it... The hang gliders down there at Texas are going to make even Minden flights look short. Someone needs to check it with a sailplane

I know you Ramy; you're secretly wanting to fly HG in the WRE and smoke Manfred and Davis' records! Good luck, I know you can do it.

regards,

-Marc PS Please don't try to tow up a sailplane behind a D-fly, it won 't work.

Well, how much power does it have, and how fast can it fly and still climb and is that faster than your stall speed?

Give Ray a call. They have a similar Tug. You could try it a day you are up here. But if you are going big you want to launch with water, right? Tell me which day, I want to watch.

How about taking a winch down there?

Let me know when and where and if you survive it. I'll cut you in on the proceeds from all the tickets Im gonna sell. I know all the vidio production folks who will pay for the footage, and then there's the Darwin awards to think about! But seriously, I did fly a Dragonfly once, seems to me top speed was about 40~45 MPH range. Someone will correct me Im sure. Can you climb out of ground effect at 35~40 KTS? 45? I think not. Why not take a crash (sorry) course in auto-tow somewhere? If you can't fine an airplane in Texas with a tow hook on it. Then you just need your own cable. I think you could find a pickup truck there Im sure somewhere someone already did it, maybe with a faster UL, but I dont think a Dragonfly will be climbing if it does manage to go fast enough to pull you up. Look at it this way, would you try it with a trike? Know any towpilots who will tug you up at more than twice the tug's gross weight? Or you could be a test pilot... Your a funny guy, Ramy. That's why we all like you

Email the folks at these websites. These are very busy airfields using the dragonfly tugs. I live very near both of these fields and I have watched them pull all kinds of aircraft.

Oh Ramy! The OZ report says they will be taking the Ultra Tug down there. I think it is a Dragonfly (Bailey) with a turbine. They just towed to 18,000 in Florida. A TURBINE!?!?!? I think it is from Quest.

Amir says hello.
