If you have pre-1945 copies of this magazine that you might be prepared to sell, swap or donate, then please read on…
The Sailplane and Glider, a forerunner of today's S&G, was published from 1930 until 1955, with a three-year gap during World War Two.
Thanks to a great deal of help from several kind glider pilots, I have almost managed to complete two archive sets of The Sailplane and Glider.
One, the editorial set, is to accompany the post of editor (the BGA archive is quite rightly kept at Leicester, a two-hour journey from the editor’s base). The second set is my own personal one.
However, each set is still missing approximately 60 issues. The vast majority of these were published between 1930 and 1934, with a handful also missing from 1935, 1936 and 1944.
I am also missing one issue of the magazine Gliding, S&G’s other forerunner, for 1955 (Volume 6, Number 1).
I have bought duplicate copies of some issues that I would be delighted to swap with genuine collectors in order to fill gaps in your own archive.
If you think you might be able to help or if you know someone else who might, please do contact me, either directly at
or via the BGA.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
