Dear Snead One,
Go give it a try.
The ALARM tactic: Alternating Lead (or Leech) and Run Method.
Use eyeballs. Keep radio yack to very low minimum, or almost none.
Pair flying should not go into Heavy MouthMode.
Avoid jamming up the airwaves.
Fly.
Yack yack will distract from what you need to pay attention.
Pair flying is a natural.
Just fly with similar class glider, run on a course agreed, and run to generally cover distance and maintain altitude.
Consider that circling flight is effectively stopping to refuel. Altitude is fuel of glider. Watch what you have in tank (read on Altimeter).
Get high, stay high if possible.
Once high, with plenty of fuel aboard (plenty altitude), go on course, circle as little as you can; pick the good circling climbs as needed or when very beneficial. All this changes of course if you have gotten into survival mode.
Run bases and streets but keep nose pointed covering course distance. Stronger lift at cloudbases may allow you to take few turns or just fly climbing straight ahead without stopping to circle.
If possible operate without getting below upper operating band for the time and place.
Work together. Eyeball what's happening to the other. Decide whether you should be pushing on or joining him. Objective is covering the distance, completing the course, circling as little as possible, and moving on and staying high except for long final glide which you may be running together.
Finding that you can do that well, then gradually set objective same as above and begin shaving time off in faster running. Conservative modest speeds on Airspeed indicator enroute does cover the course however, and that is so important.
Let us know when you start doing it.
Dancing on clouds,
Keep it up!
