Hi

I am going to be in New York City briefly around 5-10 April. Staying in Manhatten. Is there anywhere reasonably accessible where I can do something soaring related. First prise of course would be to do some flying...

Suggestions welcome

might be a little early for soaring in the northeast.. they've had a tough winter..

I was looking at some glider clubs in the NJ/NY area last night.. one website at 'Valley Soaring' just off of I-84 in the Hudson Valley would not load.

Check the www.ssa.org web page on 'Where to fly' search by state in NJ and NY

good luck

just noticed the .co.za in the return email address.. where is .za?

if coming from a foreign land.. like California or New Mexico.. LOL.. or somewhere else off our shores... you will need an FAA (US) certificate to fly US registered aircraft 'solo', but you should be able to fly dual .. with the changes since 9-11, I don't think you can get a US certificate if you apply now, and have it by the first of April.

Don't know why you were having problems the Valley Soaring website it should load OK it's: www.valleysoaring.org (or try www.ntplx.net/~valsoar if you have problems).

Can't be sure right now if we will be back in the air by April 5th - snow just doesn't seem to want to give up this year. In theory we re-open on the March 30th. Not feeling too hopeful on that right now

If you are interested you can shoot me an email closer to the time and I'll give you status.

Regards, Alasdair Crawford Valley Soaring Club

There is also

Yardscreeksoaring.com which is out of Blairstown, NJ 1N7 It would be a nice ride down Route 80 about 12 miles from the PA border.
