I just saw the aforementioned Martin Simons title advertised in 'Model Aviation (the AMA rag). Has anybody seen a copy yet? How does it compare with 'Sailplanes 1920-1945'?

Martin, I have a copy of the new Simons book and it is the same beautifully executed format as the first. A definite must purchase companion volume to the first. Very interesting to see how we got to where we are. Cheers!., Pete

Sounds like very intereasting reading. Not familiar with Model Aviation. Where does one purchase a copy of the book.

May we assume this is model sailplanes, not full-size?

Thanks,

Michael

Nope. It covers full-size gliders made between 1945 and 1965. Companion to Sailplanes 1920-1945 and the future release Sailplanes 1965-2000

is the publisher. They have both German and English editions and will sell direct at EUR 45.20 + P&P. There's approximate parity between the Euro and the US dollar.

Looks like Quiet Flyer www.quietflyer.com sell it in the US for $64.95 + P&P. Don't know where else you'd get it, but I noticed that neither Amazon or Aeroplane Books carry it.

QF buys the book fom me. It is also offered by Historic Aviation as well as the National Soaring Museum. I am not aware of Aeroplane Books. Amazon does not handle the book because they want too large a discount for me to make any money on the book at all at anything like a reasonable list price (as if 65 bucks is reasonable).

The book is also directly availble from me for $64.95 plus $4 p&h to US addresses.

Volume 1, Sailplanes, 1920-1945 are also available from all of the above sources, for the same price but p&h may vary..

I also offer other books by Martin Simons.

If you don't own this volume or vol. 2, buy them from Raul. They are both fantastic. Lots of history, great drawings and wonderful pictures, many in color. Very much worth the price.
