I ordered my ASW27 pre-wired for a Dittel radio at the factory. This included a speaker that is located just behind the right side of canopy. This places it several inches behind your right ear.

In flight, I find that I am often unable to understand what is being said. When I tested it on the ground, I find that the transmission is noticeably distorted at high volume levels. When I test it next to my ICOM handheld, I find much less distortion at the same volume level.

I removed the cover over the speaker to see what had been installed. It is a Visaton FRS 7

The glider is currently a 4-hour drive away, so it isn't easy to double check this.

When I removed the speaker, I did notice that the 'cloth' covering the speaker was very thin and was white in color. Does this sound like ceconite?
