I am not sure of all the changes, but here are some notes from another web site. Mine says 301B on the documents from Germany.

based on this.. I understand that the 301 and 201 share the same fuselage and tail?

The fuselage on the 201 is a bit narrow for my shoulders.. I can fly it.. just tough getting in and out..

talk about 'wearing the aircraft'

I'd love a 301, if not for the narrow fuselage..

Hi Eric, The H-301B has smaller ailerons with only one drive (the A has two) the wing tips curl up (the A curled down)

The changes were made to counteract adverse yaw by reducing the size of the ailerons and the curled up wing tip is more efficient because it flows naturally into the wing tip vortex. Both flavors still have balsewood cores.

The 301 is still an amazing ship with a good (read faforable) handicap factor for Sports Class. I believe my ship is getting 39 to 1. I was able to keep an ASW-27 in sight for a 250 mile romp. Not bad for a 35 year old machine. The 27 driver remarked on the way I was able to out climb his ship. JJ Sinclair

I met a fellow out at Crystal once, Gus McCarthy, who had a 301 that had originally been an A but was now a B. I think it ser. # 25. The bird had once belonged to Paul Bikle who had either damaged it or bought it damaged. Apparently Bikle had to replace a wing. He got a B wing and found that the aileron was different on the B wing. So, he had to convert the other wing to the tapered aileron (or vice versa, I can't remember which).

I think an A can be 'converted' to a B, for loading and water ballast reasons, by adding a statement to the operating handbook and maybe a logbook endorsement.

I've heard that after a certain serial number (65?) the H-301B was manufactured with foam cores, I take it this is not true?

Guys we are mixing up 201 info with 301 info. All 301's have balsa cores and none of them can be leagilly flown in excess of 661 GW, unless they have been licenced Experimental.

Now any 201 can be changed into a *B* model by adding factory water system and then the GW goes to 770. Early 201's had balsa cores along with dive brakes and the thin stab as in the 301. I even saw one with a fixed gear to comply with the original Standard class rules, but lets not go there. JJ Sinclair

Thanks for the reply... I'm based in Santa Fe. Does the 301 have balsa core wings? Tell me more. I was looking for a 201B. Is the cockpit smaller than a 201B? I know the 301 has flapss. How about ballast? What is the condition of Gelcoat. We have a few out here one looks brand new (400 hours) and is all original.
