Can anyone suggest a permanent glue for attaching mylar gap covers? My gap covers are coming loose after two years of contact cement. Thanks John F Ottawa

Good post.

I'll add:

Be sure to apply tape to warm surfaces. If you save the taping chore for a winter project, use heat lamps etc.

If the tape adhesive is acrylic, there's an adhesive primer available from McMaster-Carr that improves the tape's adhesion.

Thanks for the pointers Bob.

I have found locally ( Australia ) the same TESA specification transept tape or double sided stick tape to re stick my control gap seals back. However I have not found a specification for the thin PVC tape yet. Does any one know of a type number and brand name. I am sure it will be 3M or TESA.

Great post Bob,

I'd add only that we use a small wooden roller used for seams when installing wall paper.

Our experience is that the Tesa brand double stick tape is superior to others. We stock it and you will find it on our secure web site listed below.

<snip>

The mylar may be micro keyed during manufacture - hardly visible to the naked eye.

Here (UK) DIY stores sell a small roller for rolling the edges of wallpaper. These days the roller is usually nylon - should be perfect for the job.

We have found that the 3M VHB double sided tape is, far superior to all others including the double sided tape manufactured by tesa.
