I own B0021. It was manufactured as an electronic barograph. I returned it to EW for modification to make it a GPS recorder. This upgrade greatly increased the recorder memory as well as adding GPS recording capability. There was a later upgrade, that I did not purchase, that added other features.

The B designation refers to the maximum recordable altitude rather than designating a later model. A models -250 to 9160 metres, B models -250 to 12,300 metres.

Barograph pins /function 2 / receive data 3 / transmit data 5 / ground 8 / CTS

Only 2 and 5 required to receive NMEA data stream.

I think you will find that the original EW Barograph was just that and did not store GPS data. The Model C EW looked just like the earlier versions and could store GPS data. To confuse the situation even more it was possible to 'upgrade' the earlier A and B models to store GPS data. The EW D recorder is a completely different beast and does store all data plus a few bells and whistles. The nice man at EW will tell you which model you have from the serial number. The website is at: www.ewuk.co.uk

The EW manual I have explicitly states that A and B serial numbers 305 and later store GPS data. The EW 'Barograph' I have (#416) was never upgraded, and does store GPS data.
