Criminal Background Checks for students

The NY Assembly just passed bill A11863 which requires flight schools to have criminal background checks done on all students attending flight training schools. It now goes on to the State Senate. If you live in NY, please write to your state senator! This bill would require students to get fingerprinted and pay for criminal background checks. The clubs then have to keep track of these records. The AOPA web site has some more info on this, and what's happening in Michigan.

NJ has a similar bill that has made it to the Governor. The NJ bill might even require pilots getting a refresher before a biennial to get a background check.
