What are the experiences with the Cambridge 302 and the Aero pocket pc? I have not had a great time with mine. The most recent problem has been getting the Aero to read waypoint files. I have Pocket Nav. version 4.5c and it won't recognize files added after the initial CD was loaded on the flash card. I know the new files are in the right area on the flash card as I can go to the 301 Utility and declare a task and I can open the flash card file and see all the sub files. When I turn on the Aero, either in simulator or while attached to the 302 the files are not there when I go to the waypoint files using the PC nav program only the original files. I am pretty sure the files are good, they are being read by version 4.4. Any suggestions. CAI has not been real good about help on some issues with this instrument.

I thought the files had to be in the My Documents folder in the Aero. I'm guessing that there is a difference if they are in the My Documents folder of the flash card....

Just a thought...

Tom,

I think your problem is something to do with hidden file extensions and is similar to what I found when I first used the Pocket Nav. My computer literate syndicate partner sorted it out in a couple of minutes but I don't recall the details so perhaps someone else on RAS can help out?

Like Mark Zivley I put the waypoints on the aero - if I hadn't I would have been stuck last weekend when I forgot to take the CF card with the aero.

Before flight I make sure that I removed the CF card. Everything needed is stored in my Aero.

Why not leave the card in the Aero for the flight? It seems like a safe place to store it, and at the end of the flight, you can transfer the flight file to it, then take the card home to your computer.

Eric Greenwell asks:

I had a problem this weekend with PocketNav on a Compaq 1550 with flash card driven by a 302. When trying to select a additonal waypoint database in flight, I got a message saying 'no waypoint files available'. After much experimentation later that evening I found that the backup waypoint files on the flashcard were corrupt in some unknown way but that the files in the My Documents section of the 1550 were fine. The system worked normally with the flashcard removed, but failed with the card installed. After wiping the flashcard memory clean and reinstalling the waypoint files from my laptop, everything was fine again. I must add that this problem occurred spontaneously, the system was fine last week, and the 1550 is used ONLY for soaring. Apparently PocketNav compares the flashcard files and My Documents files and if they don't match for some reason, doesn't give you any files at all. I this happens again in flight, now I know to just remove the flashcard.

I'm using the Pocket NAV and GPS/NAV and had a similar problem with adding SUA & DAT files. Turns out that the Compac only can recognize about 40+ files, and mine had come loaded already with nearly every soaring site in the USA, both SUA and DAT files for each. After I deleted some of the SUA and DAT files that I will never use, it worked fine. You could see the files in Windows Explorer, but it would not deal with them until I 'thinned' them out. Not sure if this is your problem, but you might give it a try.
