Best Auto Car?

Does anyone have an opinion on the best model car to use for an auto car?

A friend and I once had a drag race with trailers on to decide who's car would be the tug for a week of record hunting.

I've auto towed with a variety of cars from a VW Sorocco to a Dodge van. They all work. The Sorrocco was interesting when the glider lifted the rear end off the ground.

I would think a pickup truck with the hitch right behind the cab would be best. Sort of a CG hook for the tug. More weight and more power is better. It all depends on what you are towing. you could probably launch an old 1-26 with a good team on a tandem bike, a short rope and a good breeze.

I have been wondering if the time to accelerate from 35 mph to 55 mph might be a good criterion, My 100k+ mileage six cylinder van takes about 5 seconds. It is marginal for towing gliders but it does work.

This is a highly controversial subject (if you have followed previous threads on this subject). There are those that think that a Vespa motorscooter is an OK tow vehicle. Personally, my Chevy Tahoe has been the best tow vehicle that I've owned (those that think that it is too expensive can save their collective breath- I'm ready to buy

F150 XLT extended or crew cab (4 door?) is by far my favorite!
