Replaced the internal battery in my Becker 4201 the other day. Used a regular lithium 3v cell in a holder I got from Maplin. Battery I removed was dated 1988, no wonder it didn't remember channels any more. Now works like a new one! Took about 1/2 an hour and cost a fiver!

Ian, I learned the hard way that you must meticulously clean the area after replacing the internal battery. Any soldering flux, even a fingerprint will allow the battery to discharge over an extended period of non-use, i.e., wintertime. Next spring she won't take a charge again.

Was a pretty goo idea to replace it - It can explode and make big (expensive) damages to the radio when getting too old ! This did happen to mine after 10 years ... Jean

OMG, I have a 1984 Becker 3201 which is still functioning no problem. Is it ok to wait for it to fail, or should the batter be changed earlier ? - Colin

When they get old Colin, they can start to leak and that can lead to expensive repairs. I would have it replaced. JJ>
