Has anyone had any problems using a vacuum pump for evacuating the air out of unvented water ballast bags? I want to do this to prevent overpressurization in case there is still air left in the bags from a previous flight.

I am more concerned with getting all the water out of the bag before filling, to ensure the bags are evenly filled (I don't normally fly full of water) The Bosworth Company in Rhode Island USA manufactures a varied line of hand operated bilge pumps, I use the model 400H with my unvented bags. West Marine stores carry this product, I am sure other marine supply stores will also. Use caution with too much suction, I have had problems with the bag staying collapsed around the drain pipe after 1 full season and had to re-engineer the drain pipe by extending it deeper into the bag, drilling it full of holes, and making a 'fishmouth' on the end to prevent the bag from sealing off the pipe.
