I have a motor glider so I sent my 302 back to Cambridge for the Engine Noise Level (ENL) upgrade. Upon return the 302 would not work with WinPilot Pro. Cambridge posted a new version of the firmware which I downloaded and installed and the problems with WinPilot Pro were corrected. I flew today for the first time with the new firmware. To my dismay, the 302 vario audio did not work. I also have it wired to my spoilers so that I get a gear audio warning if I open the spoilers without the gear being extended. This audio function does not work either. Has anyone with the ENL upgrade had the same problem? Thanks, just need to know if it could be a firmware problem or if I need to return it to Cambridge for repair. The conditions at Texas Soaring Association glider port were great today. Many flights over 2 hours. Not Minden but very good in Texas for mid March. Summer is coming to Texas.

You do know that the ENL upgrade eliminates the internal speaker, and requires an external speaker?

No, I did not know that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing I am aware of in the Cambridge documentation that tells me this. Thanks for the heads up! '2BK'

This is not the Cambridge that I am used to dealing with, certainly not user friendly at this time. I used to stand up for there service and their rapid response. I hope they get there act together before everyone says, 'hatsa la visa babby' and moves on to other supported equipment. '2BK'

My 302 was recently upgraded w/ ENL as well, but I had heard through the grapevine that an external speaker would be required as a result of the modifications they had made. CAI, however, didn't include any helpful paperwork w/ the 302 upon return to remind anyone of this. This would have been very useful to Bob.

It would have also been nice if CAI would have included the speaker they removed from inside the unit with the returned 302 so that we didn't have to go out and order one from Digi-Key, etc. Perhaps that speaker wouldn't have worked if connected to the external outputs, but I bet it would have.

I've still got my fingers crossed that CAI can manage what appears to be a turn-around from the unfortunate circumstances which preceded the recent management change. Hopefully CAI can demonstrate that the 302 is the best variometer platform out there (you must have an exemplary vario before you can start computing speed to fly, etc.) and then build upon that to make the 302 the gold standard which I believe it has the capability to be.

Actually, I believe the CAI had tried to keep the internal speaker in the original design and attempt to use some noise canceling whiz bang circuitry to eliminate the vario noise from the outside noise. In concept this should work, but unfortunately they appear to have found that it was more difficult than they expected. Had it worked it would have kept the installation a lot cleaner and I appreciate the fact that they made an attempt to do that. Perhaps they can iron that out in the

Cambridge has posted a new 302 manual for firmware version F2.6 dated February, 2003. It states in section 2.5 that an external speaker is required for the 302-MG (Motor Glider) version of the instrument.

Hi,

Cambridge now sells 4 versions of the 302 - with and without external speaker in either Knots or Meters. The unit with the external speaker is $20 extra and is described as: CAF 302E MG, DDV and Flight Recorder, Knots, with noise level recording for motorgliders
